In the early part of the book Little House on the Praire, Wilder explains that her father bec0me dissatisfied about the degree to which the Big Woods had become too settled. He felt compelled to move to a wilder, more unsettled area and builds his first Prairie House on land that belonged to the Osage Indians.
This situation is important for understanding the events of the book Little House on the Prairie and those that followed.
