The Multiply Blend Mode is Frequently Used to Plug Some of the OOMPH back into vintage photos.  The photo below was placed on the background layer.  That layer was duplicated.  The upper [duplicate layer] was multiplied.  To understand how multiplying is a Blend mode–and not just a stand-alone effect, try turning off the visibility of the background layer.  The blending action is truly a combining of pixels.Image
